Just a few short weeks ago, I was hosting our first Million Dollar Retreat in beautiful Savannah, GA. I set up a tour of the Savannah Bee Company for all my retreaters. It is their home location for so many of their handcrafted products, they have bee hives right on sight, give tours, and teach all about honey bees. It was so much fun!
The cool thing? We got to taste honey right out of the hives. Yummm!
All of us also got to learn about the importance of honey bees in our environment. If you don’t know, you should spend some time educating yourself!
We learned about the role of the Queen Bee within her colony. Not only that but they had a special setup which allows you to see all the different worker bees within the hive and the queen.
So, I noticed something interesting.
You can see a massive difference between female worker bees and the male bees. The female worker bees are in charge of keeping everyone fed and the hive clean. They literally work themselves to death.
The male worker bees are, on the other hand, a little slow and lazy. They lay around in the hive while the females clean them and care for everyone and everything else. Their role solely is to mate with the queen. Once they do, they die.
And then there’s QUEEN BEE.
The queen’s role is to lay eggs and keep the colony alive. Everyone tends to the queen. You can actually see her workers gather around to clean her, tend to her and keep her safe. She has the longest life within the colony.
She is almost twice the size of the other bees and easy to spot visually by her size and the halo of worker bees around her. If at anytime the queen is unfit to lead the colony, the bees will kill her.
Without the queen, the colony doesn’t survive. Pretty important role, right?
Well, that got me thinking…
How so many women entrepreneurs like you keep playing the role of a worker bee for a painfully long time in your life and business!
Yes! You get the job done (i.e. make money and fulfill responsibilities), but you also work yourself to death.
Now, what if you stepped into your role as a Queen Bee!
How would it make you feel? How would you behave? And more importantly, how would you operate your business?
As a Queen Bee, what are the key priorities that you need to focus on to keep your business alive? What is the one thing that if you focused on that alone, would allow your colony (a.k.a. your audience, income & impact) to thrive?
As I prepare to step out of my business to have a child, my focus is solely on that Queen Bee role. This means I have to get super clear on what my business needs most from ME. What are the things that only I, the Queen Bee, can do and focusing all my attention on those key things.
Everything else gets eliminated or delegated.
Do you know what exactly you need to THRIVE and not just survive in your business?
If you’ve been spreading yourself too thin and have little to no clarity around your business operations, management, marketing, sales and above all, boundaries (to live your BEST life yet!)…
