Want to have it all? Well, the best day to get started is TODAY. Welcome to Love Your Living, a podcast for ambitious women who want to take their life and business to a WHOLE new level of success. I’m Brooke Keeling, multiple six-figure business owner, passionate entrepreneur and your host.

Welcome to another episode of the Love Your Living podcast…

Hello everyone, and welcome to the Love Your Living podcast. I am Brooke Keeling, and I am so excited to be here with you, as always, and so grateful that you are tuning into the Love Your Living podcast. Today, I am diving into business, work, like, your dreams, and when it is the perfect time. Whatever it is that you want in your life, how do we know when it’s the right time?

This is something that I thought about a lot at the beginning of the year because, wherever we’re at, we always find a reason or an excuse or something that we’re scared about to second-guess our movement forward or to second-guess whether or not something is a good idea. And there’s a lot going on right now in our world. There’s a lot of unknown with our economy, there’s a lot unknown within my real estate business. We’ve seen a lot of concern with when is the right time, when is it a good time, is the market going to change, are we going to see another recession?

And what this thought process does is it holds us back from taking action on our dreams and on our business. Now, I’m not saying it’s not good to be smart, it’s not good to not have a plan or strategy or protect yourself in your business as things change. But, as human beings, we have this lizard brain of ours that goes into fight or flight.

It is meant to protect us. It is meant to give us warning signs that our life is in danger, that we are literally going to go up in flames, everything will be ruined, we will lose everything, we will run the lives of our family, our friends, ourselves, everything. That’s our lizard brain.

It’s constantly sending off signals and flares at times, and if we don’t learn to manage this and understand what is actually going on with fight or flight, it truly can limit us from our true potential. And I see this all of the time. I see this in my client’s conversations, client conversations in my real estate business. I see this in conversations within my coaching business. I see it in my mastermind group. I hear of it a lot. My husband is in the financial world and I hear a lot of feedback from his clients as well.

And the reality is we have so many external things going on that we’re constantly worrying about and thinking about and putting into consideration and it really does hold us back from taking the action necessary that we need to take to create the life that we really want. Now, listen, I have some really incredible mentors and friends, and I always say that. I think so highly of the people in my life and I’m so grateful for all the people that I have in my life, and I’m grateful for all of the opportunities that I have had to be surrounded by incredible thought leaders and people that challenge the average, the normal way of doing life and thinking.

And what’s interesting to me is Tony Robbins, take him for example, he wears this hat that has a four-leaf clover on it, right. And on the side of it, it says, “Lucky on purpose.” I have heard that same concept from multiple people that I look at their life and I say, wow, they’re really doing things, or man, do they have fun, or gosh, it just always looks like they’re winning, it always looks like they’re off on an adventure, they’re living life to the fullest.

And they’ll say, you know, I’m so lucky or I create my own magic, lucky on purpose. And it truly is a choice. It’s our choice to be lucky. It’s our choice to say yes to new adventures, to new opportunities, to living bigger. That is a choice of ours. But the thing is, too many of us sit around on the sidelines worrying and wondering when the perfect time is.

When’s the perfect time to start planning for my financial future? My husband has that conversation every single day. And so many people are missing the boat because they think, oh, I can make money for the rest of my life. Wrong answer. If you look at the compound effect of building wealth, the answer would be now. Now would be the perfect time to start building financial wealth for your future, because if you want to wait until you’re 40 when I’m retired, I think you might regret that thought; so getting really smart and savvy about when you should start planning. Well, the answer is now. I don’t care how old you are, but you should probably start planning financially for your future right now, investing in your retirement right now.

If you don’t have the money or you don’t have the extra money set aside, I don’t care, find it, do it, do it now, right? You’ll find a way. If you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way.

When is the right time to hire a coach? Probably right now. If you have some big goals, you should probably invest in yourself. You should do it now.  If you think that you really want to take your life to the next level and your business to the next level but you don’t have people around you that are supporting that and maybe you think a mastermind group would be really incredible, should you wait five years? Or maybe you should do it now. I would say you should probably invest in yourself and do it now.

When is the best time to focus on your health, your mental, physical wellbeing, take care of your body? I’m not telling you to go and start a diet. And if I had one of my friends – if she heard me talk anything about diet, she would slap me in the face. I’m not talking about diet, I’m talking about lifestyle and taking care of yourself and building in self-care and time to exercise and make sure you have healthy options around you and take care of you. When’s the best time? It’s probably not next Monday. It’s probably now.

Or, how about when is the best time to take that vacation that you long for, to go on an adventure that you have been dying to go on for so long and you see other people taking vacations or going on these excursions or whatever it may be? You see them doing it all the time and you think, man I wish that could be me. It can be you. You just have to say yes and you have to create it within your own life, especially at the beginning of the year this year.

So, look, I will give you perfect examples and you guys can all sit here and say, yes but I don’t have… as I’m ranting along, when’s the best time to do anything. When is the best time to buy a house? Well, it’s right now because interest rates are going up and the value of homes are going to continue to go up, so probably the best time to buy a house is right now. Ask me a question, I’ll give you an answer, but it’s likely going to be right now.

So, let’s go back to me for a minute so you guys can hopefully associate this within your own life. So the beginning of the year this year, we had a lot of big moves I my business and in our own personal life. We moved houses. We really upgraded our house from where we were at. The last house that we were in was very safe. We had been in it for six years; six years when I was just starting out in my real estate business and my husband was still working a corporate job that was a very, very well-paying job with incredible benefits and healthcare.

And since then, I have built out my business and he also changed positions and he is now also in the world of you don’t do your work, you don’t get paid, commission-based industry entrepreneur world. That’s where we’re at. And so our last house was six years ago and we have grown a ton and it was very, very comfortable. The mortgage payment was very comfortable and I started to feel a little bit confined. And I really challenged myself on the thought is, what is it that I’m craving right now?

Is it really truly, like, what feelings are coming up that make me feel this need to move? And I sat on that for a while. And again, really, really challenged myself because I truly believe that sometimes we reach for these things that we think are going to fill us up and fill a void in our life, and they don’t. You can change your hair, you can change where you live, you can change the car that you drive, you can change your wardrobe, but if you don’t change your mindset, if you don’t change what is going on internally within you, nothing else will change.

And so, I didn’t want to just say, I need a new house because of whatever feelings that were coming up. And so I challenged myself and I sat on it for a while and I also realized there was a lot of fears coming up as well. We heavily invest in our businesses and these last couple of years we’ve spent a lot of money investing in our businesses.

And so as you grow, your overhead gets higher, and as you do new things and invest, you’re dumping a lot of money, especially in the first few years of a business. And so, I didn’t have as much reserve funds, I didn’t have as much cush. And so, staying at my other house felt safe to me. And so I realized that and I think this is a thought that comes up for so many of us that are in the entrepreneurial world of is this going to last, what if I can’t pay my mortgage, what if I have a really tough month, what if my year isn’t as great as the year before, my month isn’t as great as the month before?

All of these thoughts start to come up and we start to talk ourselves out of things that we really want in our life. And that’s when the difference between high-achievers comes in versus the people that kind of stay stagnant at a comfortable level, as we say yes to the things that scare the shit out of us. So I said yes to this house. I said yes to a house that was double what our last house was in terms of value and is a total remodel, like a couple hundred-thousand-dollar remodel on top of it.

And we did it anyways, and I’m so grateful that we did. We made it happen and it drives us so much more to take our lives to the next level because we have to. We don’t have a choice anymore, right? So there’s that.

Also, at the beginning of the year, I was contemplating investing in different systems and different projects within my business. So within any business, you have hires that you could hire out, like okay, do I add another person on my payroll or do I run leaner, do I contract a team out? Do I have someone on retainer? Do invest $12,000 into a website rebrand? Do I boost up my marketing?

You know, marketing, once you get to a certain point, I have friends that their overhead, in a similar business to mine, is 60 grand a month just to run your business. And that’s not uncommon. It’s not unheard of; so really understanding what it takes to run your business and what’s smart to invest and where to invest is huge.

So, I had to figure out, okay, when is a good time for me to invest in some of these different areas of my businesses? What does my P and L look like? When is the lovely tax season coming? And your brain starts to spin around a lot of this.

One of my big goals, I’ve told you guys, is to work with Elsa Isaac. She’s a stylist. She’s Marie Forleo’s personal stylist and I absolutely love Marie Forleo. And I got the opportunity, I had this thought, and guess what, the thought became real. I kept thinking about it and I started taking action and I got her to come on the Love Your Living podcast. So, over the next few weeks, she will be on the podcast and I cannot wait to talk about how your personal style is a representation of your brand and how you show up is a representation of you and the difference in mindset and in your personal life that it makes, just you as an individual.

So anyway, I’m super excited to have her on the show. And what came of that is, all of a sudden, I have another friend that was in New York and she also works with her. She happened to be with Elsa that weekend doing a style session for an upcoming book tour that she had.

And so, I was like, oh my gosh, all of this stuff – I have Elsa on my mind, right – I have all of these things happening and it’s like connecting the dots. So then, I decided, okay, I’m going to make it a goal of mine this year to work with her. And then, of course, I’m thinking when is the right time? When is the right time to hire her as a stylist? Of course, I have a reading session with my spiritual guide, my medium.

And I’m not joking there either. I do have a lot of calls with my – I don’t even know what you’d call her. She reads my numbers, my numerology, and all of that and she’s like real legit. So if anybody’s into that, let me know because I’m totally cool with passing her name along.

But anyway, I started asking myself some questions around when I should start doing things and the thoughts around a lot of the thoughts that I get and the things that I read and how I coach people in any of my businesses, whether it’s real estate or in Love Your Living, you hear a lot of people really squirming about the economy, like I said before, and when is the right time and do I plan for doomsday?

I’ve heard so much talk about this and, you guys, we have to get ourselves set up so that we feel safe, you have a few months of reserves, you can survive. However, do you know that the biggest players out there, they thrive in a down economy, thrive. They can’t wait because they get to eat their competition alive. That’s not when they are scaling back, that’s when they are making massive moves forward while the rest of everybody else is thinking, oh my gosh, I can’t spend money on this and oh my gosh I can’t do this and invest in that, no one will buy this.

That is such a crappy mindset to have and it will truly affect your business in the worst way possible. So be mindful and understand what’s going on, but don’t allow that to create a scarcity mindset within your world. And so I had to really let go of that and let go of the fact that, yes, there’s going to be some shifts, there’s going to be some movements, there’s going to be some changes, so what?

Who cares, right? Get yourself set up, but I’m going to make it through. I’m going to be that top 1% always. I will always find a way and I will always be at the top. And maybe it will be harder. Maybe we’ll have to shift gears or we’ll have to strategize a little bit differently, but you’re always going to find a way. So you have to have that belief within yourself that you will always find a way.

And with that, creating your own luck, creating your own magic within your own life that comes by saying yes to the things that you want in life, not waiting; not waiting until you lose 20 pounds, not waiting until you have an extra reserve fund in your bank account, not waiting until you have more time in your schedule, not waiting until your business is set up a certain way. We need to stop waiting and start doing, start saying yes to those things, start saying yes to things like Elsa Isaac.

I said, you know what, I’m not going to make this a five-year goal, I’m going to make this shit happen this year. Not only this year, I’m going to make it happen next month. I have a call with her and I am going to New York, March 23rd I believe. I will be in New York City and I will be meeting her live and in person, and that’s how people achieve their goals is they say yes.

Would I prefer to have more money in my bank account? Would I have preferred to say I need to be at this level first? I found all of those excuses, all of them, is it the right time, should I really invest in this, is this frivolous? I should just be grateful for what I have. But it’s something that I wanted, and so I’m going to make it happen. The same thing even with going to New York.

When we have busy lives and busy schedules and businesses to run and babies to tend for and families to be a part of, we tend to put our blinders on and just grind it out and hustle and do the work. And I am here for that. I am here for that. I’m doing the work too.  I’m doing everything that I have to do in order to achieve my goals. And sometimes they’re really long nights and sometimes it’s really stressful and whatever. It is what it is. I work more than maybe the average person does. But honestly, I probably always will. And that’s okay with me because I want big things and I’m willing to do the work to make them happen.

But we can’t not say yes to a lot of the things that are going to allow us to grow even more. So, for example, I said yes to going to New York City and my schedule is packed. I have multiple businesses, I have three dogs, I have a baby, I have all of the things. I have a lot of things that I’m managing, right? And sometimes the thought of traveling, it wears me out a little bit.

But what happened is I decided. This actually came up out of a goal of mine. I’m going to back up even more so you guys can really associate with this, okay. this came from, I really wanted a Peloton bike, and they’re expensive. It’s an investment. And I told my husband I really want a peloton bike. This is what I would love for Christmas or I want to buy myself this year. And, of course, the timing of it, we were moving houses and there’s a lot of expenses and justifying buying a $2000 bike was kind of a lot. It seemed like a lot.

After the holidays, I literally had this conversation with him probably like January 4th. And he’s like, you know, we need to just take a step back. We need to just get everything in order and get all of our finances in order and let me look at all of our retirement accounts, you know, the financial advisor that he is. And he told me that, for a week – I think I gave him a week, which is really quite a long time for me – and I looked at him one night and I said, look, I have a really big year ahead and I know at this point in my life what this is going to bring to my mental wellness, to my physical health, to my goals. And for me, showing up as a mom and as a wife and as a business owner, I know that working out and taking care of myself is a huge, huge, huge piece of that puzzle of being my best self.

And so I told him that and I said, look you have your things, this is crucial for me. This is a part of me achieving my goals. I need to be able to have an outlet that I can go to that’s a healthy outlet to keep my mental sanity, basically. But he’s like, okay, cool, I get it, I’ll order the bike for you. Not that I need him to order it for me, but I’m really impatient with a lot of that stuff and I’ve learned to ask for help with a lot more things, which has been really great. And it’s also allowed him to feel so much more – you know, independent women can be really tough for men sometimes. I say this to my husband all the time, because I’m one that’s like, I don’t need your help, I can do it on my own. And what happens is, you start to see them not feeling a need to be needed.

They don’t feel needed and they don’t feel loved, and that’s one of the biggest things that men, how they’re naturally wired, they want to feel like they are giving. And when, for me, when I’m constantly shutting him down or saying I don’t need your help or I’ll do it myself, it affected our marriage and I could tell that it affected him personally as well.

So I’ve gotten a lot better recently asking for help because that’s all he wants is he wants me to ask him for help. He wants me to fill him in where he can step up or he can help me with whatever it is. Truly, he just wants to help. So even the littlest things like saying, hey, same bank account, not like he’s buying it for me, but could you go online and order a peloton, and he did it and he was very happy to do that.

So anyway, he orders the bike, and by saying yes to doing that, I have found a massive love for a couple of the trainers in there that have allowed me to embrace this sense of hustle and chasing after your goals and doing the work and pushing through and being resilient and wanting more and being elite and being the best. That’s how they coach.

And I’m like, holy shit, this is my life. This is what I have been putting myself down about for years and here they are saying, hey girl, go get it. I’m like, hell yeah, I am here for it. So that opened my eyes to a couple of people I’m absolutely obsessed with now, and I love their values that they live by and it inspires me every day. And it also opened me up to saying one of my birthday goals is to ride live in the studio in New York City at my 100th ride, which is a really big goal. I have to get 100 ride sin by my birthday, which is more than a ride a day.

But I set that big goal and I outed myself on social media. And so far, I am on track. Like, I will be able to hit it. But I had no intention of going to New York city for my birthday. And what came of that is other friends that also have a Peloton. I have a girlfriend that’s flying in in March. We’re doing a photo shoot. I’m meeting with Elsa. We’re going to ride live in the studio, and then I’m going back in April for a fun weekend with my husband.

And this is something that you’re all probably saying, yeah, cool, great for you, like you have the ability to do that. Guys, I booked my plane tickets on points. I’m going for three days, they’re direct flights, I’m in and out of the city. They’re fun weekends away that I get to connect with incredible people and experience new things and it’s just amazing when you say yes to something.

When you actually say, when is the right time – it is now. Say yes to whatever it is that you want, even if it scares you. Say yes and find the way. If you don’t have the money, you will find it, you will make it, you will figure it out. I promise, you will.  Most of us don’t just have all of this cash fat stacked in the bank for our leisure, for taking a month off and going to Paris or whatever it may be. We’re working really, really hard and we’re constantly upleveling our game.

And that’s what’s really cool, when you start surrounding yourself by people that are playing at that level or higher and have really big goals that are saying, guess what, I’m not satisfied, guess what, this is life on my terms, guess what, I want more, guess what, I want to make a shit ton of money or I do make a shit ton of money and I’m proud of it and I’m here for it.

And then you start saying yes and you start connecting to all of these other people that connect you to other opportunities and it’s incredible. It’s incredible what happens. So I want you to think about your goals for this year. Think about something that you thought was totally undoable, like there’s no way this is going to happen or maybe even a goal that you say, okay, this is something I want to do in a year of five years. It doesn’t seem possible.

I want you to think about some of the things that you really, really, really crave in your life right now. And I want you to commit to them. I want you to say yes. I don’t want you to sit and think about when is the perfect time, is it the right investment, is it the best fit for me, what’s the return on investment going to be? You second-guess yourself and then you’re not going to show up in the state that you need to show up to actually do the work and make shit happen, to make the magic happen. Be lucky on purpose.

You’ve got to create your own luck. These people that you look out there and you say, I used to be this way. Honestly, this is how I was raised. Gosh, aren’t they just so lucky that they have so much money? Gosh, they’re just so lucky. They’re not freaking lucky, you guys. At least the people that I’m following aren’t, the people that I look up to aren’t. They’re doing the fucking work. Beyoncé isn’t just lucky. Tony Robbins isn’t just lucky, and they aren’t content. They don’t hit a goal and they say, okay I’m cool, I’m good, my life is fulfilled.

They don’t think that way at all. They keep going. They keep working. They keep getting better at whatever it is that they’re doing and they work their asses off while they do it. So if you are wondering when the best time to, insert blank – literally I want you to think about this. When is the best time to, insert blank? It’s probably now.

The answer is now. Find a way. Figure it out. Up until a month or so ago, New York was not on my schedule for this year. In fact, I didn’t have a whole lot of travel planned at all because I had a really big travel year last year. But guess what – miraculous things happen when you’re open to them, so don’t be scared. Don’t be scared that it’s not going to last. Don’t be scared that maybe it won’t work for you. That’s just fear setting in. it’s your fear. That’s what the role of fear is.

It’s your brain, your fight or flight, trying to keep you safe. If we want something in life, we have to go get it. we have to push through that fear, acknowledge it, say thank you, and then keep going. Believe in yourself. Believe in your dreams. Believe in your goals and believe that you can make it happen.

And I promise you, we will likely see some shifts in our economy. There’s a lot going on in our world and it’s not very pretty right now. There’s a lot of unknown and yes, we might see a downturn, we might see a down market, as my husband calls it, but remember, that is your turn to shine. That is when you can shine the most.

You can shine so bright, don’t get scared in scarcity mode. Don’t go down that rabbit hole of gathering all your eggs and sitting on them and being scared to do anything. That’s your time to take massive action and create incredible wealth for yourself and your family. So don’t fear it, welcome it and say yes to whatever it is that you’re craving.

When is the perfect time? Insert whatever it is that you want and then now after it. And if you don’t know what action steps to take, reach out to me. I’m more than happy to help. Reach out to a mentor or find yourself an incredible friend that is real and true and that can call you on your own bullshit and excuses because that’s what we need sometimes. We need an outside force to push us along.

And sometimes when we don’t believe in our self, that’s when we need someone on the outside to cheer us along. We need that cheerleader that sees in us what we can’t see in ourselves, because we all have incredible magic inside.

So I hope you all have an incredible week. I hope you say yes to whatever it is to whatever it is that you’re craving in your life and go for it now. Commit to it. Show up and do the work. Hustle, grind it out, push through it, whatever it is that you need to do, just do it. And have fun doing it too. And be scared. Guess what, sometimes when you’re scared, that’s like your sign to say yes to do it, to go for it, all in. jump in, the water’s warm. I’ve been saying that a lot lately. Just jump in, the water is warm.

So I hope you all have a great week. I hope you enjoy this episode and some of the takeaways that I’ve gotten in my life over the last couple of months that have scared the shit out of me but that have been the biggest eye-openers to even more incredible things happening in my world. So, create your own luck, be lucky on purpose. Do it now.

And for all of you that have been on my podcast previously, I have a massive ask for you listening in.
